Convert and download the resized GIF, with the new file size shown.
Resizing GIFs: what actually changes
GIF dimensions are fixed at creation, so resizing means re-encoding every frame. Doing this in the browser avoids the upload-queue-watermark dance of server-based tools — your file never leaves the device and the output has no watermark.
Resolution is also the third compression lever: halving width and height cuts pixels (and file size) by roughly 75%. For Discord emotes (128px), chat stickers or email-safe GIFs, resizing beats palette reduction for visible size wins. Combine it with the GIF optimizer (fewer colors, fewer frames) for extreme savings.
Need a vertical 9:16 version instead? Use our GIF to vertical video tool. Need the same GIF smaller without changing dimensions? The GIF compressor handles that.
Resize for where the GIF will actually live
Resize a GIF for Discord
Server emoji are capped at 128×128 (animated ones must also stay under 256 KB, so pair the resize with the compressor). Full-size GIFs posted in chat are better converted to video — Discord plays MP4 inline just like a GIF.
Resize a GIF for email
Most clients render message bodies at roughly 590–600px wide — anything bigger gets scaled down anyway, so ship the smaller file. Keep the total under ~1 MB. Honest note: Outlook desktop shows only the first frame, animation or not.
Resize a GIF for a GitHub README
READMEs render to repo width, so a 1080p capture is wasted bytes. Halving width and height removes ~75% of the pixels — the single cheapest speed win for docs pages.
Resize before or after compressing?
Resize first, then compress. Fewer pixels means the color and frame-rate reduction has less work to do, and you can see the real final size in the result card. Compress after resizing →
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I resize a GIF to a custom size?
⌄
The dropdown offers proportional 480p/720p/1080p. For pixel-perfect dimensions, use the Crop option in Advanced to set an exact region first.
Does resizing make the file smaller?
⌄
Yes — halving the resolution removes about 75% of the pixels. It's one of the three big GIF size levers (resolution, colors, frame rate).
Is this GIF converter really free?
⌄
Yes — the browser converter is free with unlimited use, no watermark, and no account. It runs on your own device, so there is no server cost to pass on to you. AI enhancement (60fps, 2x upscale) uses paid GPU credits.
What is the best free GIF to video converter in 2026?
⌄
For free and private conversion, GIFtoVideoAI: unlimited use, files processed entirely in your browser (never uploaded), no watermark, no signup — plus optional AI 60fps and 2x upscaling. If you need heavier editing suites, ezgif offers more tools; we compare both honestly on this site.
Can I convert GIF to video on my phone without uploading?
⌄
Yes — the converter runs in mobile browsers (iOS Safari, Android Chrome). Processing happens on your device, so nothing is uploaded even on mobile. The result saves to Files (iOS) or Downloads (Android).
Are my files uploaded to a server?
⌄
No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly (FFmpeg.wasm). Your GIF never leaves your device — you can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
What's the maximum file size?
⌄
Up to 100 MB per GIF and 5 files per batch in the free browser converter. AI enhancement accepts videos up to 30 seconds.
Will there be a watermark?
⌄
Never. The output is a clean file with no watermark, no branding overlay, and no injected metadata.
